Alister Dias has been appointed VMware's new managing director and vice president for Australia and New Zealand, effective from April.

He replaces Duncan Bennet who in December left the company for personal reasons after six years in the role.

Dias has held the role of EMC Australia and New Zealand managing director since 2012 and had worked in a variety of roles at EMC. Prior to this role, he worked at CA Technologies and Soft Centre.

VMware APAC and Japan vice president Sharat Sinha will continue as interim general manager for the business in A/NZ.

"We are very pleased that his knowledge, expertise and vision will continue to benefit the EMC federation of companies," an EMC spokesperson said.

"Alister will be working with the EMC ANZ leadership team to ensure business as usual and a smooth transition through to his official VMWare appointment date of April 1."

EMC Asia Pacific and Japan president David Webster will be leading the day to day running of the operations through the transition to a new leader.
