IAG makes new Customer Labs appointment

Insurance company wants Andrew Stead, formerly of NICTA, to develop new business partnerships

NICTA alumnus Andrew Stead has been appointed director, strategic initiatives, at IAG’s Customer Labs division, the insurance company announced today.

Stead will “oversee the development of new business partnerships with a focus on insurtech,” the insurance company said

Stead was formerly director, new ventures, at NICTA (which was merged with the CSIRO’s digital productivity team to become Data61). In his role at NICTA Stead had a focus on commercialising R&D projects.

“Andrew is highly regarded in the start-up and research commercialisation communities. He brings a wealth of knowledge to IAG, with significant experience in building and nurturing new businesses,” IAG chief customer officer Julie Batch said in a statement.

“His role will be pivotal in creating new opportunities across the business through engagement with boundary-pushing entrepreneurs and start-ups, as well as research organisations.”

“The creation of IAG Labs signals a clear intent to embrace new opportunities and actively shape the future of insurance, risk management and ancillary services across the organisation and its joint venture partners,” Stead said.
