Suncorp poaches Medibank tech head for CIO role

Sarah Harland to replace Matt Pancino

Suncorp has appointed Sarah Harland to the role of chief information officer, the financial services group announced this morning.

Harland replaces Matt Pancino, who departed in late April. Chief transformation officer Clayton Herbert has been overseeing the CIO function while Suncorp sought a replacement for Pancino.

Pancino returned to the role of Suncorp CIO as part of a group restructure in February after a stint as CEO of Suncorp Business Services. The CIO left Suncorp to take up the role of executive general manager, retail and wealth, in the Commonwealth Bank’s Enterprise Services team.

Harland is currently executive general manager, technology and operations, at Medibank Private, with the health insurer announcing her resignation this morning. Harland has only been in the Medibank role since January, until December having been general manager – group technology at ANZ Bank.

“Sarah will leave Medibank effective 3 June to relocate interstate for personal reasons," a statement from Medibank said.

“A search has already commenced to fill the role with an appointment expected in coming months.”

“Sarah is an outstanding an experienced candidate and I am confident her leadership and track record over the past 16 years in similar roles will build on the momentum we already have and take Suncorp’s digital capability to the next level,” said Suncorp Group CEO Michael Cameron.

Harland will take up her new position on 1 September. Herbert will continue in a caretaker CIO role until then.
