HSBC Australia CIO moves to COO role

Katie Docherty promoted to chief operating officer role at bank

HSBC Australia IT chief Katie Docherty will move to a chief operating officer role later this year, with the bank in the process of recruiting a new CIO.

The IT exec has been appointed chief operating officer for Retail Banking and Wealth Management, effective later this year. Docherty is an HSBC veteran and has previously been an acting COO for HSBC New Zealand. She originally joined the bank in 2007.

She has been in the CIO role at HSBC Australia for close to two years.

The bank is accepting applications for the CIO role until 21 August. The CIO role sits within HSBC’s Operations, Services and Technology — HOST — team and reports to the COO.

The bank said that the successful candidate for the CIO position will “take ownership in executing Group Strategy, strategic cost management, service management, and investment governance, business transformation through technology enablement, operational risk, service quality, risk governance, IT security and executing on CoE strategy.”

HSBC said it is after someone with “solid experience in a managerial role within an IT or related field and solid experience of managing a global function with a geographically dispersed team”.
