Airservices Australia is on the hunt for a chief information officer. The organisation has been without a permanent C-level IT exec since the 2014 departure of Gordon Dunsford.

At the time of his departure the organisation said it would take the opportunity to assess “how best to address the future needs” of the business when it came to technology.

The organisation has tapped Westpac’s infrastructure head, Chris Seller, to act as CIO while it conducts a formal recruitment round. (Westpac has been approached for details on the current status of the director of infrastructure operations position at the bank.)

Seller has previously held roles at Qantas and Jetstar, including chief architect and head of operations at Qantas and CIO at the airline’s budget subsidiary.

Airservices Australia provides air traffic control, aviation rescue and fire fighting and air navigation services. The organisation earlier this year said it would cut its number of senior managers.

“Airservices is transforming our business to be more agile and effective in delivering our air navigation and aviation rescue fire-fighting services to our customers,” an Airservices Australia spokesperson told Computerworld Australia.

“A key element of our transformation is becoming a technology driven business. This includes appointing a chief information officer as part of our new operating model, with the role accountable for driving a customer-focused information management strategy.”
