Primus customers get global hotspots

Primus is teaming up with iPass to offer customers access to more than 1000 wireless hotspots around the world.

The telco claims its deal with an enterprise connectivity service provider is the first of its kind in Australia.

“Telstra did a similar thing recently but you can’t ring them and buy a service,” Primus’ general manager of product development, Campbell Sallabank, claimed.

The agreement will enable roaming wireless access at selected airports, hotels and convention centres - such as the London Underground and Shanghai Airport - in 17 countries including Belgium, Japan, Malaysia and Switzerland.

“The number of hotspots could reach 10,000 within months if their dial-up model is anything to go by.”

Primus customers can currently access more than 50 wireless hotspots around Australia on the Azure network.

iPass provides its services by aggregating from other companies and uses Primus infrastructure in the Australian market.
