Fujitsu Siemens Announces New Home PC Line

HANOVER, GERMANY (02/24/2000) - Fujitsu Siemens Computers BV yesterday announced a new line of PCs for home users and small offices.

Called Scaleo, the new line of computers is available in both ATX and Micro ATX Intel Corp. motherboard formats, and is divided into two series, Top Line and Standard Line, according to a company statement.

Fujitsu Siemens is the European joint venture between Fujitsu Ltd. and Siemens AG. Unlike other hardware vendors in Europe that have moved toward the model of selling PCs directly to consumers, Fujitsu Siemens has stated its intention of relying heavily on resellers to market its hardware.

The Top Line series is designed to be sold by large retail partners of Fujitsu Siemens, the company said in a statement. It features a dark blue front panel and translucent blue sliding CD and DVD drive cover.

The Standard Line series will be available in three designs, each of which can be combined with two subbrands geared to different partner channels, the company said. Specific brand names are the T-Bird and Euroline, which come in gray, Sundance and Family PC in yellow, and Trend and Skyline models in blue.

Both series feature Intel Corp.'s Celeron processors at speeds up to 800MHz, as well as Pentium III processors with speeds up to 566MHz, Fujitsu Siemens said.

The computers also come with features including front side bus for faster data throughput, BIOS with multibooting, USB connectivity, and a range of ATI graphics cards. They also come installed with Windows 98 SE, Fujitsu Siemens said.

No information was available on pricing or when the new lines would be available.
