Frontline takes first step to national coverage

Frontline Systems has "entered the 'brave new world' of national coverage" following an alliance with Brisbane-based company ICC.

As of December 1, the Sun Microsystems' reseller and supplier of Internet infrastructure and e-business solutions will amalgamate its resources with ICC.

ICC founder Rick Brown will assume the role of managing director for Frontline Systems, Queensland, and the two units are expected to be operating as a single entity in 2001.

ICC is almost an identical business to Frontline - albeit on a smaller scale - making the merger an "incredibly neat fit".

Both ICC and Frontline are accredited Sun hub resellers, licensed to provide Sun solutions to non-accredited resellers. Frontline Systems is the only Sun hub reseller in NSW, and ICC the only one in Queensland. In their respective states, the two companies have held the title of "Sun Reseller of the Year" for several years.

"Together we take our place among the largest Sun Microsystems' resellers in the country," said Steve Murphy, founder and managing director of Frontline Systems Australia.

The deal is a co-operative effort to reach critical mass with no money changing hands.

"We have taken this step with ICC without venture capital support so we have complete control and responsibility to make it work," said Murphy.

Frontline is already scouring the Victorian landscape for a suitable partner to further expand the business. However, in the absence of a match, Murphy says Frontline has the resources to build a base from the ground up.
