Nokia announced Thursday that its Internet-enabled 6210 mobile phone handset targeted at mobile professionals is now shipping in volume in Europe.
The 6210, a follow-up to Nokia's popular 6110 and 6150 models, will be available in retail outlets throughout Europe by next week, the Espoo, Finland-based company said in a statement.
First introduced in February at the CeBIT show in Hanover, Germany, the 6210 is a high-end mobile phone handset with support for both WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) for accessing Internet-based information as well as the HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data) network specification that allows data transfer at speeds up to 43.2K bits per second. A dual-band GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) handset, the 6210 can be used on both 900MHz and 1.8GHz networks, widely deployed throughout Europe as well as Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.
When used in combination with the company's PC Suite package, the 6210 can be integrated into corporate information systems for remote e-mail retrieval and access to databases as well as other corporate data, Nokia said.
Weighing in at 114 grams, the 6210 measures 129.5-by-47.3-by-18.8 millimeters. It features an illuminated 96-by-60 pixel display as well as memory for storing contact information, messages and calendar notes.
Pricing information was not available. Most mobile phones are offered by service operators bundled with a subscription.
Last Friday, Nokia also introduced the 3310 handset, an entry-level model aimed at younger users featuring no Internet access, but with enhanced text-based chat capabilities.
