Colonial CIO jumps into ZIVO fire

Ian Gill faces a trial by fire now that he's taken on the CEO's job at ZIVO - the troubled Web solutions arm of LibertyOne. It's not that Gill doesn't have the credentials, because he has loads of experience after serving in senior technical, management and consulting roles with companies like Ansett, British Gas, IOOF, IBM and most recently as CIO at Colonial Trust Bank.

His main worry will be that ZIVO is in big trouble, having lost all of its founding executives and recently suffered dramatic staff losses. Despite all that Marcelle Anderson, the new CEO of LibertyOne, believes Gill is the right man for the job. "Ian Gill has a proven track record as a leader who developers successful IT organisations," she explained. ""His ability to align business and IT objectives makes him the right person to oversee ZIVO as it restructures."

Driscoll returns to the mainstream

Austin Driscoll has been appointed Australia/NZ director for Compuware Solutions, returning to the mainstream after a slight aberration. Driscoll was founder - with Brian Clegg -- of high-flying Pick software house Clegg Driscoll, which became part of the Sanderson group of companies under the name Sanderson CDC. He had a brief spell in heavyweight consulting before joining Compuware.

SecureNet recruits CFO from Fosters

IT security specialist SecureNet has appointed Seng Tan CFO with control over all financial and contractual aspects of the company's operations. Tan is a chartered accountant who has worked with Price Waterhouse in Melbourne and London, but who has spent the last 17 years with Foster's Brewing Group, where he was vice president of treasury. Geoffrey Ross, managing director of SecureNet, said Tan's international finance and business expertise in taking Foster's to the US and European capital markets will be "particularly relevant" in the context of SecureNet's current offshore activities and expansion plans.

Around the Traps

Australian technology developer MultiEmedia.com has appointed two new members to its board. The fresh blood comes in the form of Sandra Andersen, who is director of business development and alliances at ANZ Personal Financial Services E-commerce, and John Walker, who is managing director of Thrifty Car Rental.

Dr Robert Wells has parted company with IDC Australia, where he was sales director.

The Federal Department of Finance and Administration is looking for a "high-achieving professional manager" for its new e-solutions group. A statement released by the department claimed the group had been set up "to get greater value from our intellectual capital through knowledge management initiatives, online strategies and end-to-end reform of business processes". The job appears quite demanding, too, needing "strategic skills, the ability to develop highly productive working relationships with stakeholders, excellent written and oral skills, sharp analytical skills and well developed people management skills". If you want a job with DOFA, check the details on the department's Web site www.dofa.gov.au or contact PricewaterhouseCoopers HR Services in Canberra.

And check out that bit about "oral skills" - it is a government job after all.
