Brief: Verizon, Workers End 18-Day Telecom Strike

Days after settling the strike with its workers in the Northeast, Verizon Corp. this week reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) in the mid-Atlantic states. The settlement is substantively the same as the one agreed to on Aug. 20 by more than 50,000 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the CWA in New York and New England, Verizon said. The agreement with the CWA in the mid-Atlantic region covers more than 35,000 employees who returned to work Thursday. Verizon management described the agreement as affordable and prudent and said it will not affect Verizon's financial targets.
