Dicom to distribute Canon
Dicom Australia has partnered with Canon Australia to distribute CanoBureau Workgroup - a fully integrated document management software application for small-to-medium business and corporate networks. CanoBureau Workgroup uses a graphical interface to simplify data management across entire computer workgroup environments. Dicom will also distribute Canon's range of document scanners launched over the past 12 months. Canon now has three distributors for high-end document scanners including Dicom, Optistor and ACA Pacific.
IBM readies Linux thin clients
IBM has added thin client computing to its list of open-source technologies, announcing a NetVista N2200L thin client for Linux and a software package for the client/server system. The software was developed in partnership with TurboLinux. Big Blue expects to deliver additional Linux solutions from its other partners such as Red Hat in the near future. Thin clients and other next-generation computing devices are initial target markets of the GNOME operating environment, an open-source desktop interface. IBM is as a member on the GNOME advisory board.
AMD ships 1.1GHz CPUs
AMD has commenced shipments of 1.1GHz processors, with many vendors last week releasing systems that use the chips. The release coincides with the company's first anniversary since launching its Athlon processors in the market. Systems featuring the processors will cost around $4500, according to the company. AMD claims it is on track to meet its goal of doubling shipments of seventh-generation PC processors to 3.6 million units in this quarter, and again doubling shipments to 7.2 million units in the fourth quarter.
Samsung aims to dial in to Olympic spiritLooking to establish awareness of its mobile phone offerings amongst consumers, Samsung has launched an interactive information centre in Sydney's Rocks. The company hopes the centre will become a major tourist attraction during the Olympics. Called Samsung Digital @ The Rocks, the venue will showcase the vendor's latest digital mobile technology, including an MP3 phone, the SCH-M220 with a TV function, the SCH-i201 Internet phone and the SCH-V200 with integrated digital camera. The centre will offer free, three-minute phone calls to anywhere in the world. Visitors will also be able to win Samsung's commemorative Olympic Games phone, available in two models - SGH-2400 and SCH-620.
