Redback Networks plans to give service providers the ability to deliver IP services faster by using assets it has gained from this week's purchase of Abatis Systems Corp.
The $US636 million deal was announced earlier this week. The deal brings Redback Abatis' Network Services Contractor (NSC) software that automates configuration of network gear needed to support customer services. NSC is interoperable with multiple vendors' gear.
The deal also brings Redback Abatis' customer site equipment that blends voice and data traffic onto a single access line. Redback's own Service Management System, hardware and software that defines customer IP services, already manages actual services.
Abatis also brings equipment that enables such services offerings as VPNs, conferencing, service-level agreements, firewalls and other security services.
Together the products of the combined company will enable service providers to set up these services faster. In addition, Abatis makes software that gives customers a view into the service provider's network to see how well their services are performing.www.abatis-sys.com.
