Unrequited Love Bug back again

The infamous "Love Bug" virus has made an unwelcome return, this time working its way through the address book of a NetRegistry employee.

The internet domain name registrar was unable to estimate how many email addresses it inadvertently passed the virus on to, but a company spokesperson said it had not been sent to any Sydney email addresses.

They said the virus had only been passed on to the addresses of overseas residents.

However, IDG has learned that at least one Sydney organisation received the virus from NetRegistry's email system.

The bug, which automatically spreads itself through the address book of Microsoft's Outlook email system and deletes graphics files, was not spread to other NetRegistry staff or customers, the spokesperson said.

They said the bug was eradicated from the NetRegistry email system before it was able to infect the email systems of any of the company's estimated 160,000 registered .com.au website owners.
