Asian Solutions for channel

Software vendor Sybase is seeing green pastures in the partnering game and intends to accelerate its market expansion plans in this area through the Asian Solutions Centre (ASC) launched earlier this year.

A Sybase press statement said the Hong Kong-based ASC, which acts as a solutions and business plan incubator, was providing a spingboard for local IT companies to launch raids on Asian markets.

So far local companies such as Adelaide-based Essential Computer Systems, Brisbane-based Concord Australia, Melbourne-based Powerserve, Perth-based Consultech and Sydney-based Tacit Group have all visited the Centre in recent weeks. Furthermore, all five of these local companies are currently reviewing their Asian expansion timetables via the Sybase incubator Centre.

The ASC's charter is "to find new technologies which can add value to existing products and services for customers".

Richard Green, managing director at Essential Computer Systems, said: "The Asian Solutions Centre presents our organisation with an ideal way of getting into the Asian market.

"For a company like us with no other Asian contacts, gaining market access via Sybase presents tremendous benefits. We can now line up appointments, use local Sybase partner staff to assess opportunities and stage meetings in a professional, impressive environment," he said.

"I would definitely recommend the Centre to other companies that wish to break into the Asian marketplace."

Colin Bell, managing director of Concord Australia, also finds the Centre to be beneficial to its Asian expansion plans.

"We think the Centre is very attractive if you have a product and a plan to enter Hong Kong and greater China markets. It gives Australian companies the opportunity to be ‘known' even before they arrive," Bell said.
