BOSTON (06/02/2000) - Wide-area storage vendor Computer Network Technology Corp. and tape outsourcing company Iron Mountain Inc. have announced a tape vaulting service for customers wanting to protect their data environments.
By adding CNT's WAN products between Iron Mountain's tape vaults and the customer site, customers have immediate access to their off-site storage. This eliminates the inconvenience of a truck picking the tape up.
Dubbed electronic tape vaulting, users will be able to protect their data by vaulting it to remote sites maintained by Iron Mountain. The CNT/Iron Mountain service will provide equipment for the customer and remote site and use CNT's UltraNet Storage Director products. The Director is a switch with either a 6- or 12-slot chassis that handles a number of interfaces including ESCON, SCSI, ATM, T-3/E-3, 10/100 Ethernet and Fibre Channel.
In a typical configuration, an UltraNet Storage Director will reside at the customer site and connect over the WAN to the remote site via a dedicated communication link. The electronic tape vaulting service is available immediately in Seattle, Philadelphia, Richmond, Virginia, New York, Washington D.C., Dallas, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago and Columbus, Ohio.
Iron presently operates 67 vaults in the U.S. and Europe.
