Caldera Systems Files for IPO

Utah based-Linux distributor Caldera Systems, has filed for an initial public offering, the company announced on Monday.

The company filed a registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission Monday. The offering will be managed by Robertson Stephens, Bear, Stearns & Co., Wit Capital Group, and First Security Van Kasper, according to a company statement.

Recent Linux IPOs have been extremely successful. Linux distributor Red Hat led the charge by filing for an IPO in June and seeing its stock skyrocket from an opening price of $US11 in August to more than $250 per share by November.

Then, last month when VA Linux Systems, had its IPO, it opened trading at $30 per share, and closed up almost 700 percent at $239.25.

Caldera Systems became a separate legal entity, specialising in distributing Linux, in September 1998, when it split from Caldera.

Caldera also announced that it has received $30 million in private equity financing from companies including Sun Microsystems, Citrix Systems, Novell and The Santa Cruz Operation.
