CSC enters alliance with e-Biz push

CSC has forged a strategic alliance with OZeCorp and M2M Corporation to jointly build online communities for the Australian market, Computerworld has learned.

Using CSC's open architectural framework as a backbone, the alliance will also leverage OzeCorp's expertise in operating online communities and the software solutions and supply chain expertise of the M2M group to target businesses within vertical markets, enabling them to access online business-to-business trading communities.

Russell Hatton, Net Market program manager at CSC told Computerworld the alliance will roll out 20 net markets (online communities) over the calendar year involving sectors such as building, retail, print and paper, resources and chemicals and food services.

Hatton added the alliance will cater for companies in a number of ways, saying "the net markets will provide Web hosting capabilities, trading communities as well as content management for each vertical market."

The ability for smaller to medium sized companies to aggregate their purchasing power will offer "huge economies of scale" according to Hatton.

Additionally net markets are seen as the answer to tyrannies of distance, with "geographical distance between companies within a market," said George Bell, managing director of CSC.

Initially net markets will be subscription-based with limited functionality, then will "evolve into a different method of payment depending on the vertical market," Hatton said.

Other forms of ongoing payment may include transactional fees as the alliance rolls out additional functionality such as spot auctions or tenders.
