Fujitsu Siemens Intros Posse of Servers

HANOVER, GERMANY (02/24/2000) - Fujitsu Siemens Computers BV used the CeBIT show here to unveil a range of new servers, and executives touted synergies resulting from last year's merger for the rollout of the broad range of new products.

"We will demonstrate our speed and flexibility with a slew of new products here at CeBIT," Robert Hoog, president of Fujitsu Siemens Computers said at a press conference held here yesterday.

Among the new servers introduced here at CeBIT are new 16-way, 32-way and 64-way models in the GP7000F series, the company's flagship Unix-server family.

Powered by 330MHz SPARC64 processors, the servers are aimed at the high end of the Unix server market, officials said.

The new GP7000F servers, the M800, M1000 and M2000, will ship in May of this year. Pricing was not available.

Siemens Fujitsu Computers also launched new models in its RM series of Unix servers, ranging from the entry-level RM300 to five RM600 models, all of which are running Reliant, its flavor of the Unix operating system.

All six RM servers will be available by July, the company said. Pricing was not available.

At the very high-end of the market, the company also launched the S140 series of mainframe servers. Based on copper-based CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) processors, the mainframe models will be available by May.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers was also one of eight major server vendors demonstrating pre-release versions of servers powered by Intel Corp.'s forthcoming 64-bit Itanium processor, scheduled for shipment in this year's second half.

The result of a joint venture between Fujitsu Ltd. and Siemens AG's Computer Systems division that went into operation in October last year, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is now the second-largest PC vendor in the European market, according to market researcher Dataquest Inc.
