GTS to Expand European Fiber Network

STOCKHOLM (01/25/2000) - Broadband network services provider Global TeleSystems Group Inc. (GTS) plans to further expand the capacity of its trans-European fiber-optic network, the company announced today.

The expansion, which will boost the capacity of the network's core to over 70 terabits per second, is part of a planned US$500 million investment to enhance the company's backbone network this year, GTS said in a statement.

GTS's goal is to expand the reach of its network to at least 50 European cities by end of this year. The network today connects 28 cities in 11 European countries, GTS said.
