Telecom NZ Plans Major Restructure

AUCKLAND (03/24/2000) - Telecom New Zealand Ltd. plans to restructure its business into major industry groups, doing away with the existing consumer, business and corporate groupings.

It's talking the plan through with about 3,000 staff who will be affected.

Spokeswoman Linda Sanders says a decision will be made within a few weeks.

"It's about putting people in different boxes," she says. "There will be no radical changes in terms of people."

Group general manager sales and service Kevin Stratful says the new structure is designed to simplify contact with customers, along with systems and processes to also speed up response to customers.

"Our primary focus is to implement national solutions across industries and consumer groups, giving customers a wider choice of products and services."

General managers will lead the following areas:

-- shared services: covering IT, commercial, finance, strategy, training and development and end-to-end processes.

-- customer services: covering sales and service, payment and credit services, fault restoration, partnership and value added services, customized managed services and operational implementation.

-- professional services: covering out- sourcing, consulting, project management, online sales and relationships with organizations such as esolutions, Xtra and EDS.

-- marketing: covering advertising and packages, sponsorship, events and hospitality, market research and development, distribution, planning and management and industry advisors.

Four regional managers will be appointed covering Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and the South Island.
