Salary survey shows call centre pay rates

A national salary survey of call centre employees has dispelled the industry's bad reputation for underpaying staff, according to recruitment agency Adecco.
The company's managing director Jo Anne Collier said the survey was sent to leading call centre employers in Australia and found call centre staff in Sydney and the Illawarra command the highest salaries ranging from $30,000 to $43,000 a year.
Collier said the call centre industry in Sydney is well established, adding that greater staffing demands have pushed up salary levels.
She said the lowest paid region for call centre workers was Far North Queensland and Tasmania, but also said that salaries in these areas are lower across all industries.
"Ironically the lower salaries are good news for regional centres which offer great opportunities for businesses to establish call centres where there is an availability of staff; they do not have to run from a high rise building in Sydney," Collier said.
