Sybase announces business intelligence modules

Sybase has developed business intelligence applications for industry verticals, designed to remove a lot of the legwork and expense of data warehousing projects.

Eric Miles, Sybase's senior vice president and general manager, announced yesterday the company would "move up the food chain" from building databases to providing solutions.

"This is the new wave in business intelligence, moving from a build marketplace to a buy marketplace," Miles said.

He said the applications would reduce implementation time from two years to less than six months, slash the cost to less than half that of traditional business intelligence projects and show a return on investment in a month.

The applications would be combined with Sybase's Warehouse Studio data warehousing product, he said.

Miles said the applications would minimise risk, reduce deployment timelines and provide an increased return on investment.

The core technology for the modules is from European company Data Warehouse Network, which Sybase acquired in February.

Miles said each industry Warehouse Studio business intelligence application was a blueprint that was 90 per cent accurate for each vertical.

The initial packages are for the retail banking, insurance, telecommunications, utilities, retail, credit card, healthcare and distribution industries.

The industry Warehouse Studio business intelligence applications are currently in beta testing.
