WA Police kitting out CHOGM command centre

The Western Australia Police is to source high-end video capture, storage and monitoring gear to help establish a communications and command centre ahead of the Perth Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October.

The equipment will be used to capture and storage up to 250 feeds from IP-based security cameras set around the meeting site and motorcade cars and route.

Four three-chip DLP cinema quality video projectors will also be sourced to create video walls for the screening of video feeds in the communications centre.

The combined storage, capture and monitoring setup will allow for the real-time viewing of up to 50 feeds at a time.

WA Police put out the call for wireless IP cameras to help lift CHOGM security in March.

At the time the agency said it had no in-car video equipment suitable to monitor the progress of official motorcades and give advance warning of any threat to the motorcade during the meeting.

The use of in-car streaming IP cameras would be able to address this and provide vision of sections of the motorcade route which are currently not serviced by traffic cameras.

The CHOGM meeting is slated for 28 to 30 October and is held every two years to allow Commonwealth leaders to discuss global and Commonwealth issues, and to agree on collective policies and initiatives.
