Microsoft to offer Skype PSTN conferencing in September

Microsoft will next month roll out Skype for Business support for PSTN conferencing in Australia, the company revealed this morning.

The feature allows Office 365 customers to hold phone conferences that participants can dial in to from a standard landline or mobile phone.

“Participants can use a dial-in number to join Skype for Business meetings from any device. They can also dial-out to bring other participants into the meeting,” Microsoft Australia’s applications and services lead, Fiona Sims, wrote in a blog entry.

“The new features can simplify unified communications environments. They also offer the benefits of one platform and provider to meet all communications needs, simple pricing (fees are per user, per month) and less need for expensive on-premises hardware.”

Microsoft in late 2014 began the process of rebranding its Lync UC platform as Skype for Business.

Microsoft in March last year announced it had switched on on-shore hosting for Office 365 and Dynamics CRM Online in Australia, using data centres in Victoria and NSW.

Skype for Business PSTN Conferencing will launch in Australia on 1 September.
