Computerworld: If you could walk a mile in any other IT professional's shoes, whose would it be and why?
Bill Advic: It would have to be Ed Yourdon. By the way, there is some controversy in his biography, published on his Web site, that he wrote all of Bob Dylan's songs. Coincidentally, I'm a huge Dylan fan - but in all seriousness, I think Ed Yourdon would have to be every programmer's hero. His contribution to the computer industry and influence on the computer profession (particularly on computer programmers) has been outstanding - he is a legend.
Suresh Padmanabhan: My first brush with computing was in the early 1980s when I became a programmer by accident. I realised that the job in IT gave me a sense of achievement and power. After completing my university degree, I was offered the job of designing a transaction-based system for a shipping company. Since then I have been involved in designing and implementing various systems and I've never had any regrets.
COMPUTERWORLD: How long have you been working at American Express (Amex) and where were you working previously?
Computerworld: How long have you been at Network Ten?
Computerworld: Did you always envisage that you would have a career in the IT industry?
Rodney Marman: After finishing school in South Africa, IT was the last career on my mind, I had a holiday for about six months then went into the hospitality industry for a year. I soon left that because of the long 12-hour shifts.

Before becoming the CIO for the Hoyts cinemas group (encompassing Hoyts cinemas in Australia, New Zealand, US, Europe and South America) I was the IT manager for Hoyts Cinemas Australia.
