Optus will introduce two-year warranties for Apple’s iPhone on post-paid contracts of the same length, with competitors set to follow in order to comply with changes to Australian consumer legislation.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will be able to seek financial penalties of up to $1.1 million for corporations and $220,000 for individuals under new powers coming into effect today.
The ACCC is to hold current pricing principles and indicative prices for fixed line services until 31 December 2010 while it carries out a review into telecommunications access pricing.
