  • A billion reasons to read about Intel, Apple, Facebook and other tech companies

    Intel’s investing up to $8 billion for new chip manufacturing, Facebook says the prosecution of a billion dollar spammer isn’t over and Twitter’s aiming for a billion users. The ITU says 2 billion of us will be online by the end of this year, one market watcher said the 5 billionth device plugged into the Internet in August and Apple has become the second most valuable U.S. company based on a market capitalization of around $290 billion and a stellar fiscal fourth quarter in which it posted $4.3 billion in earnings and $20.3 billion in revenue. 

  • Software AG acquires MDM vendor

    Software AG announced Monday that it has purchased MDM (master data management) vendor Data Foundations, and has plans to link that technology to its portfolio of BPM (business process management) and other middleware technologies. Terms were not disclosed.

  • SuccessFactors adds 'cloud calculator' analytics

    SuccessFactors announced a new Calculator in the Cloud service on Monday that allows users to pull together analytic mashups with data from its human resources software suite as well as from other SaaS (software as a service) applications.

  • EMC stock rises on Oracle buyout rumor

    Speculation that <a href="http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/100510-oracle-to-buy-sso-vendor.html?source=nww_rss">Oracle might buy EMC</a> pushed EMC's <a href="http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/101310-emc-tackles-big-data-with.html">stock price</a> up about 5% on Thursday, even as several analysts called such an acquisition unlikely.

  • IBM buys e-discovery vendor PSS

    IBM said Wednesday it is purchasing e-discovery vendor PSS Systems, in a move that further broadens Big Blue's sprawling portfolio of information management software. Terms were not disclosed.

  • Google buys BlindType to help Android users type more easily

    Google has acquired BlindType, a developer of apps to make typing easier on touch-screen phones, the small software maker announced Friday. The move comes just a couple of months after BlindType demonstrated an Android version of its software, which was originally developed for the iPhone and iPad.

    CA Technologies has entered into a formal agreement to purchase capacity management software provider Hyperformix, which is based in Austin, Texas, the two companies announced Tuesday.
