Wang Global presents IT services

Wang Global yesterday announced new services for medium and large companies designed to help them migrate networks to a common operating environment.

Wang Global will offer 19 different services, 10 of them new, under a program called NetWorkPlace, aimed at companies with 1000 to 50,000 network seats. The common operating environment is based on Microsoft's desktop and server technologies, Cisco Systems' network technologies and desktop and server systems using Intel microprocessors.

"It enables [the companies] to be network ready and secure," said Dave Hudson, Wang Global's senior vice president of marketing.

The new service suite is Wang Global's response to customer concerns with firewall protection and intrusion, Hudson said, noting that NetWorkPlace also is year 2000 compliant.

Companies now have heterogeneous IT infrastructure consisting of a variety of mainframe, desktop and network technology and NetWorkPlace is intended to help companies deal with escalating support and management costs of those infrastructures, Hudson said.

The cost of NetWorkPlace depends on the size of a company's network.

The NetWorkPlace services include:

-- Assessment and planning -- total-cost-of-ownership assessment and network security assessment with products from Wang Global's parent company, Wang Laboratories Inc.

-- Migration and deployment -- desktop transition, Windows NT migration, intranet security, messaging and IP (Internet protocol) migration.

-- Management and maintenance -- help desk, asset and network management, multi-vendor support, and technology installation and refresh planning.

The company also plans to introduce services for remote systems management, total-cost-of-ownership management and disaster recovery.
