Telemedia comes to Sydney

Auckland telecommunications software company Telemedia will open offices in Sydney and Hong Kong next month.

Telemedia Networks International supplies "enhanced service" applications to telecomms carriers.

"All those extra bits on your phone bill -- for call forwarding, messaging -- that's where the money is," says chief executive Chris Jones.

Telemedia has also developed systems to keep track of spending on prepaid phones, and a call centre application. New Zealand customers include Telecom, Vodafone, Telstra, Clear, Callplus, Freedom Mobile and TelNet.

Jones says the company now has customers throughout the Australia and Asian regions and local offices will improve the service level Telemedia can offer them.

Each office will employ one sales and one technical member of staff.

The company already has a support office in Thailand for a large Motorola call centre, but the Sydney and Hong Kong offices will be the first sales and service centres outside New Zealand.

"This is just phase one," says Jones. "We hope eventually to have offices in Britain, Japan and South Africa."
