In a move to strengthen its position as a local telecommunications player, WorldxChange has purchased switching technology from Siemens to form the backbone to its national network.

In a multimillion dollar deal over several years, Siemens will supply WorldxChange with digital switches to interconnect with Telstra's exchanges in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth.

According to officials, the network will combine voice and enhanced services and with Siemens EWSD switching technology will provide for anticipated growth over the next few years.

It is also anticipated that WorldxChange will be able to connect to Telstra's national access product for the first time. WorldxChange expects to be able to offer customers carrier preselection as well as lower its interconnection costs.
