Professionals gather around Cisco's knowledge portal

If you have a Cisco certification and you'd like to put together a network on Mars or simply participate in a live online forum and have questions answered in real time by experts in the field, then perhaps Cisco's online Web portal is for you.

There are now more than 50,000 Cisco certified members around the world signed up to Cisco's free knowledge portal, the company announced on Tuesday.

The portal offers a 'bundle' of free services available exclusively to certified individuals who become part of the "Cisco Certifications Community".

The free benefits of the Web portal consist of broadcast shows, certification updates, discussion forums and other special offers.

A new addition to the site is a number of learning games that combine fun with education. One new game challenges users to put together a Cisco network on Mars using a rover.

Another feature of the Web site is a monthly Web TV show "Certification Connect" where viewers can submit questions to a panel of experts and have those questions answered live. Topics for the show have included CCIE labs, written exams, and various certification and re-certification tracks.

Don Field, senior manager of Cisco Internet learning systems said the portal was a way of continuing to offer lifelong support and training after certification.
