CWO cable internet service detailed

Cable & Wireless Optus (CWO) and Excite@Home last week released details of their soon to be available cable internet service Optus@Home.

Available to some residents in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane later this year, Optus@Home is an internet service providing customised browsers, five email accounts, five personal WebSpace accounts , 24x7 technical support, search and navigation tools and newsgroups. officials said.

Yet again, officials failed to release pricing details for the service.

The key feature of the service is the assured fast internet speed. Using Optus' existing broadband cable network, subscribers will be able to access the Internet at speeds 100 times faster than traditional 28.8 modems, officials claim.

"We want to redefine what Australians expect from their Internet service provider. Clearly Optus@Home is not just another ISP," John Garner, director of marketing, programming and sales for AT Home Network Australia, joint venture formed between Excite@Home and CWO said.

The cable service allows for "always on" internet and limited busy signal and line dropouts, officials said.
