LAN Systems introduces telco, ISP unit

Solutions provider LAN Systems yesterday announced the creation of a new division specifically aimed at telcos and Internet service providers (ISPs) in an effort to capitalise on the growing Internet and telecommunications markets.

Called the Telco Business Unit, the division will operate as a separate entity within LAN Systems and will focus on areas including data, voice and video integration, voice over IP and virtual private networks. The company will integrate its current telecommunications and ISP operations into the new division.

According to CEO and managing director Scott Frew, LAN Systems is investing $2 million in the unit over the next 12 months.

In addition, resources from LAN Systems' other divisions -- including HotStage Logistics, network design, security design and distribution -- will also be leveraged.

The company has appointed Tony Heywood, former senior corporate account executive with C&W Optus, to head up the operation.
