Xylan selects Davnet for CBD corporate networks

Xylan Corporation has appointed local telecommunications carrier, Davnet as its preferred specialist for building-wide corporate networks.

Formed in 1997, Davnet provides tenants of city office buildings with low-cost, high-bandwidth access to the Internet via its own direct digital network.

In the agreement with Xylan, Davnet will use Xylan switches in its patent-pending solution for building-wide networks, officials said.

Training staff from Davnet will attend Xylan's Calabasas headquarters and fulfil an annual OnmiStack product commitment worth more than $600,000 from Xylan's authorised business partner, Force Technology, officials said.

Officials said Xylan will provide support and advance access to upcoming technologies including Voice over IP.

According to officials, Davnet uses a combination of Xylan switches, CheckPoint firewall and wireless technologies "to link CBD buildings to its own or existing Internet service providers".

In Davnet's solution, buildings are connected via a microwave, infrared or blue-light laser transmitter on the roof and OmniStack switches in the riser. Mid-Orbit satellites linked through hubs on Sydney's Grosvenor Place and Melbourne's Rialto Towers connect buildings directly to the US, officials said.
