Intel opens communications fund coffer

Communications software maker Trillium Digital Systems last week became the first company to receive an equity investment from the newly created Intel Communications Fund.

Intel did not reveal the size of the investment, saying only that the Communications Fund, which it manages and funds internally, was designed to make minority equity investments typically below $US10 million.

Trillium will optimise and port its software for telephony, the internet, wireless and broadband networks to Intel's recently announced network processor and Internet Exchange (IX) Architecture, Intel officials said.

The chip giant earlier this month announced the establishment of the $200 million Intel Communications Fund as part of its drive into the networking-device market.
