IBM acquires GE Capital Services' outsourcing businessIBM last month announced a multibillion-dollar deal to acquire GE Capital Services' outsourcing business for mainframe and mid-range processing and to handle GE Capital's own high-end processing. In addition, IBM will have a 10-year contract to manage GE Capital's own data centre and various network operations. GE Capital, a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Electric, will maintain its outsourcing business in desktop services.

Network Associates to acquire TIS, be one-stop security shopNetwork security and management software vendor Network Associates last month announced plans to acquire Trusted Infor-mation Systems (TIS) in a stock swap worth about $US300 million. With the acquisition of TIS, which manufactures firewall, key recovery management and anti-hacker network monitoring software, Network Associates will be the largest provider of security software products in the world, Bill Larson, CEO of Network Associates, said.

Tenix dumps Baan solution

More than 18 months into an ill-fated implementation Tenix, formerly Transfield Defence, abandoned the rollout of a Baan enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. The engineering, construction, equipment and maintenance specialist was implementing the Baan ERP solution to help run its new project manufacturing facility and service a $5 billion contract to build 10 warships for the Australian and New Zealand navies.
