Volante extends acquisition reach

The Volante group last week confirmed it has added Queensland's Silicon Data Group to its stable, following its recent announcement of an equity stake in South Australian reseller CPM&S.

According to Volante managing director Wayne Morris, the private deal was concluded and became effective on July 1, but he was unwilling to disclose any of the financial details.

Silicon Data Group (SDG), which was founded in 1989, has a staff of 50, and is described as being "focused on offering strategic infrastructure solutions to corporate entities, government agencies and educational institutions". Its 1999 revenues are reported as exceeding $40 million.

Morris said the structure of the Queensland reseller will not change, and it will continue to trade as Silicon Data Group. He added that as well as giving Volante a strong presence in the sunshine state, SDG gains a national partner with strong technology. He pointed to Volante's e-commerce procurement system Customer Connect as a key example.

Rob Boogers, managing director of SDG, said the partnership with Volante will add value to its market presence.

"Our immediate short-term operational goal is to move to an e-commerce model which will include an upgrade of our in-house and external communication facilities to our clients and suppliers via e-mail and the Internet. We now have this immediately available with the Customer Connect system developed by Volante," Boogers said.

Volante's hardware and software solutions include products from IBM, Compaq, Toshiba, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Novell, Citrix, Cisco, 3Com, Nortel/Bay and SUN Microsystems.
