Management shifts at MCI

MCI named Nicholas Katzenbach as its new chairman of the board Tuesday.

Katzenbach will assume the role when MCI emerges from bankruptcy, which the company expects to do in April. Katzenbach, a former U.S. attorney general, has been on the carrier’s board since July 2002.

Since joining MCI in Dec. 2002, Michael Capellas held the titles of chairman and CEO. In an effort to distribute power and provide adequate checks and balances within the company, those titles are now split.

But while Capellas is handing over the chairman reigns to Katzenback, he is taking on the title of president.

The company announced that after a seven-month stint with the carrier as COO and president, Rick Roscitt, is leaving MCI.

MCI said in a press release that Roscitt "has elected to leave the company to pursue other opportunities."
