The Western Australian Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) is implementing an electronic document and records management system (EDRMS) for more than 1000 staff across 50 locations.
The new system, provided by Objective, will help CALM maintain records for WA's native plants, animals and natural ecosystems in a variety of information formats including soil samples and herbarium specimens.
It will enable CALM to shift from a paper-based environment to an electronic environment.
According to CALM manager of corporate information Debra Rule, the solution will assist in meeting increased accountability requirements, like the WA State Records Act 2000.
"CALM has silos of information and knowledge across the Department," Rule said.
"By replacing these silos with a single enterprise information repository, Objective will empower staff to find information by themselves and promote knowledge sharing department wide."
