Suncorp rationalises licence costs

Suncorp has set out to rationalise its reporting tools and software licence costs across the organisation, signing a contract for reporting solutions worth $700,000 over three years.

With Cognos named as the single provider for the reporting tools to be implemented within Suncorp's business intelligence and data warehouse environment, the insurer will standardise on Cognos ReportNet enterprise wide, aiming to achieve more tightly integrated corporate reporting structure and reduce ongoing licence costs. Previously Suncorp used reporting tools from both Cognos and Business Objects.

Implementation was scheduled to start within the organisation's call centre operations in mid-August, before the roll-out to its general insurance and business banking units over a three-year period.

Suncorp information services manager Gary Woods said that with the stabilisation of BI requirements, it made sense to standardise the reporting platform with a single solution.

"We chose the Cognos suite including ReportNet because it offered the most flexible software licensing model, highest usability levels and tightest integration with our existing business intelligence platform," Woods said.

Suncorp implemented the first phase of its business intelligence platform in 2000 with the purchase of Cognos PowerPlay Web to generate budgets and conduct activity-based costing across the organisation and rolled out Cognos Metrics Manager in 2003 to implement and track key performance indicators in customer service.
