MCI expands enterprise professional services

MCI is expanding its on-site network services for large businesses that want to add Internet, data and VOIP applications.

MCI is expanding its offerings of on-site enterprise services with the goal of helping large businesses add Internet, data and VOIP (voice over Internet Protocol) applications to their networks, the company said Tuesday.

MCI is immediately offering three new network support services to large businesses. Beginning in the first quarter of 2006, MCI will support network services such as dedicated and remote IP VPNs (virtual private networks) and managed IP PBX (private branch exchange) for its large-business customers, and MCI will extend support to its government and wholesale data customers.

In expanding enterprise services, MCI is looking to be a "one-stop shop" for providing on-site network support, said Cliff Cibelli, MCI's senior product manager for managed network services. Customers could use MCI's Site Services suite to ready themselves for an installation of MCI equipment or another vendor's equipment, Cibelli said, but MCI also hopes its on-site services will lead customers to choose MCI's managed services offerings.

In using MCI's Site Services, large businesses can deal with one vendor implementing network changes, instead of dealing with multiple vendors, Cibelli said. "In an IP environment, there are a lot more factors you need to look at when you're implementing services," he said. "We can say, 'You only have to deal with me. It's my people, my equipment. ... I'm responsible for it.'"

Starting immediately, MCI's U.S. technicians will offer three new services to large businesses:

-- Site audits to provide an inventory of the customer's site. MCI technicians will audit device types, track serial numbers, and measure circuits and power availability.

-- Site assessments to ensure a customer's existing technology is capable of supporting additional applications or services. MCI will evaluate variables such as bandwidth use, network traffic, and latency interference, and then make recommendations on infrastructure upgrades.

-- Installation or de-installation services: MCI will help customers ready their networks for new services at their site, and install or de-install customer-furnished equipment from MCI or another vendor.

Earlier this year, MCI began offering other Site Services, including inside wiring and site surveys.

MCI's Site Services will be offered in the 48 contiguous U.S. states and will be flexibly priced, based on multiple factors. Larger, more complex services covering multiple locations, nonstandard equipment or nonstandard tools could require customized pricing, MCI said.

MCI's Site Servicers are available with a variety of MCI products, including local and long-distance voice, Private IP, Frame Relay and Internet Dedicated offerings.
