The Northern Territory government has selected Fujitsu for a four-year desktop and helpdesk service contract worth $150 million, ousting incumbent service provider CSC Australia.
CSC had held the contract, described as the largest in the Northern Territory, since 2001. The current contract expires on June 29.
Fujitsu won the tender over CSC Australia, Hewlett-Packard and Unisys. Contract negotiations will start immediately.
Northern Territory Government Corporate and Information Services Minister Dr Chris Burns said there will be a slight increase in job availabilities as a result of the contract.
"We anticipate no net loss in the number of jobs required to deliver these services ... in fact a slight increase in jobs is expected," Burns said.
"Fujitsu has been chosen as preferred tenderer, because it best met the overall requirements of the contract, primarily by providing the best value for taxpayers' money, and meeting the business requirements of the agencies.
"If these negotiations are successful, we expect the new contract to be completed by the end of March, allowing for an orderly transition to the new, four-year contract which commences on June 29 2006."
The tender is for the supply of desktop, laptop, server and full helpdesk and closed on November 16, 2005. CSC held the contract since July 2001 when the work was first outsourced by the Northern Territory government.
