BEA acquires Fuego in $US87.5m deal

BEA Systems announced Wednesday that it has acquired business process management (BPM) software vendor Fuego in a deal valued at US$87.5 million.

Fuego specializes in BPM software to help companies orchestrate and tie together business processes as part of a service-oriented architecture (SOA). The Fuego portfolio of products will be folded into BEA's AquaLogic product line-up and will be the foundation of BEA's new AquaLogic Business Service Interaction product family, according to officials from BEA.

Alfred Chuang, chairman and CEO of BEA, said in a statement that the BPM segment is the fastest growing part of the SOA software market. The addition of Fuego to BEA's AquaLogic product line means BEA can offer a unified SOA-based family of software to integrate business processes, applications and legacy environments, he said.

Dallas-based Fuego has more than 100 employees, and its customers include Southwest Airlines, United Healthcare, JPMorganChase and British Petroleum. Its FuegoBPM suite has been used in more than 170 production BPM projects, according to BEA.
