SNIA expects record storage event

Access to information is driving interest in this year's Storage Networking World in Sydney in September.

The Storage Networking Industry Association for Australia and New Zealand (SNIA) said there is record interest in the forum, which is in its second year.

SNIA executive director Rob Stirling said the event, which SNIA - as an arm of the not-for-profit Storage and Data Management Standards and Education body - runs, has doubled its sponsors and attendance, because emphasis has been on information sharing between user and experts.

"Being an industry body we have been able to attract storage analysts, legal experts and technical experts to discuss storage security, IP storage and storage management, records management and archiving, and some of ANZ's most advanced storage users who will share their experiences with delegates," he said.

The event, dubbed "building a storage foundation for the information driven enterprise", will host a "storage for the masses" seminar with education tutorials, case studies presented by vendors, and a live hook-up to the SNIA labs in Colorado for a display of SMI-S standard inoperability between competitors' equipment.

"[The forum] sets the scene for the move away from pure-play storage into the process of advising on wider information issues," Stirling said.

SNIA chairman, Jacob Van der Eyk said more than 20 expert users from both New Zealand and South East Asia are also expected to attend.

The exhibition, free of charge, is scheduled for Sydney on September 26 and 27 and is part of a series held in the US, Japan, China and Europe. See www.snwaustralia.com for more information.
