UXC wins environmental services deal

UXC subsidiary Fieldforce has won a $22.5 million deal with the Queensland government.

The project involves providing water conservation to 150,000 homes over two years and Fieldforce will also operate a call centre and provide project management to satisfy demand across 22 local government areas.

Queensland premier Peter Beattie said the scheme is an important part of reducing the current water crisis.

"The deepening drought makes it vital that as many people as possible take advantage of the water saving scheme. By the end of the program, it is estimated that we will have saved 3150 megalitres per year, which is equivalent to 3150 Olympic sized pools," Beattie said.

Fieldforce general manager Craig Bathie said it has developed a real-time network which will allow local government instant access to field data.

"Our data management capability complements [the scheme] in that we have developed a paperless system for capturing field data and transferring it from the field and back again, enabling local governments to benefit from real-time access of the data in monitoring the progress of the work," Bathie said.

UXC executive chairman Geoff Lord said environmental services are increasingly contributing more to business growth.

"Water conservation and other environmental services represent an area of great focus and potential for substantial growth in UXC [as] environmental services are already making significant positive impacts on our results," Lord said. "Fieldforce will develop further environmental offerings around solar heating and other technologies."
