SecureTelecom lands deal with Hammond

SecureTelecom has scored a deal to deploy, manage and maintain a Cisco Unified Communications system for Hammond Care Group.

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

SecureTelecom has been managing Hammond's IT services for seven years. General manager of sales and marketing, Matthew Lovegrove, said this was a natural extension.

"The underlying problem was that Hammond had a mixture of PBX providers and didn't have any consistency across location," he said. "Systems were getting close to end of life, there were reliability issues and maintenance costs were starting to blow out.

"We put forward an IP PBX concept and the benefits it could bring not just in terms of cost savings but functionality extensions."

The system will initially be rolled out across three Hammond Care sites in Sydney, Wollongong and Hammondville.

The rollout is expected to be completed in 10 weeks.

Lovegrove said it would also look to implement across eight more sites.

"Once this system is up, the client would also like to have a paging station and wireless handsets for staff to access data," he said.

Cisco business development manager for aged care, Steve Briscoe, said this was a key deployment for the vendor as it had been working to build specific networks.

"In addition to straight telephony, the network gives them the ability to add extra applications such as wireless care packages, RFID tracking of assets and other types of technologies that assist in the care of the individual," he said.

In other news, SecureTelecom is looking to recruit a handful of VoIP specialists.

Lovegrove said this was a new area for the company and it wanted to beef up its expertise.
