IBM launches managed e-mail service

IBM Australia has announced a new managed security service designed to help companies reduce the risks inherent with e-mail communications.

Dubbed E-mail Security Management Services the offering is available immediately although IBM is unwilling to disclose pricing details.

The solution is founded on technology from e-mail security provider MessageLabs, which has partnered with IBM on this service, and is designed to act as a company’s first line of defence by scanning e-mail and helping to reduce threats such as viruses, spam and other unwanted content before they infiltrate an organization.

IBM Global Services executive Michael Bobillier said, because e-mail is a primary form of communication for business, customers want to securely manage the network in an on-demand capacity.

The service will scan and monitor inbound and outbound e-mail outside the customer network to prevent uncontrolled distribution of harmful and unwanted content.

It also includes antivirus and e-mail image filtering which uses composition image analysis to help identify and stop unwanted images from entering and leaving an organization. Antispam technology is also available to quarantine spam and alleviate bandwidth issues.

IBM’s e-mail security helpdesk will support the service delivery.
