The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) will offer a short course in Developing Windows and Web Applications using Visual Studio .NET in November.
The course will be taught by Microsoft Certified Trainer for .NET, Yusuf Pisan and will go from November 15 to November 19. It will cost $1400.
It is mainly aimed at new developers with previous programming experience in VB, C or another language wanting to upgrade their skills. It also aims at intermediate programmers who will design and build Windows and Web based applications using .NET framework, and programmers who are evaluating Microsoft .NET tools, such as Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003.
The course will introduce students to the Microsoft .NET Framework through hands-on exercises. Both C# and VB .NET code is provided side-by-side giving the students a better understanding of the commonalities between the languages. The class examples can be completed in either C# or VB .NET.
It will provide an introduction to the .NET framework for students who want to pursue Microsoft certification, specifically MCAD (Microsoft Certified Application Developer).
At course completion students should be able to explain the main concepts behind the common language runtime; create Windows-based applications; create Windows Forms with menus, system and user controls; create Web Forms and Web Services; create and use components in Windows Forms-based and ASP.NET-based applications; use XML Web services in an application; handle system events and generate custom events.
According to the UTS Web site, although .NET languages are not much different to traditional 00 languages, programmers will still need a short training course to understand the capabilities, get familiar with the functionalities and understand the communication structure for these services.
