Borland unveils quality management suite

Borland has unveiled a quality management software suite that eliminates software defects

Borland Software unveiled quality management software Monday designed to eliminate software defects by tightly linking requirements to code as it is built and tested.

The new Lifecycle Quality Management suite integrates Borland's Silk testing products -- acquired from Segue Software -- with its requirements definition and management tools and software configuration product. The suite also includes a new developer-testing and defect-prevention product called Gauntlet, said Brad Johnson, director of product marketing for quality management tools at Borland.

"By looking at quality from a balance of complete requirements plus correct code and minimized defects -- all balanced to meet business goals -- we're changing the way organizations think about how they approach quality," he said.

Gauntlet, which runs on top of existing software configuration management and version-control systems, analyzes code as it is checked in, he said. If it doesn't pass specific quality checks, a developer will not be allowed to check it in.

"Now, quality assurance knows completely that a build is testable, and they won't run into major issues [because of code that] shouldn't have been promoted to the build," he said.

Gauntlet will be generally available Dec. 15.
